![]() There’s also new events for these nations, and it’s hard to tell what’s new and what’s old. These mission trees are also not trivial to complete, though they’re generally speaking not quite as difficult as the mission trees that Paradox has made for some other games. As Egypt do you want a mission tree that encourages you to push east or west? And once you’ve completed one tree you can switch to another. So you can chose what you want to focus on. You don’t just get one tree per nation, you get several, though the exact number varies. Something that the new mission trees have over even the ones that most existing nations has, including Rome, is options right from the get go. You have some choices in regards to what mission tree you want to start with The mission trees also usually has several branching parallel paths, and these branches can be mutually exclusive, you can’t after all both befriend and conquer a nation at the same time. Thrace might never have gone so far as to conquer Scythia historically, but the mission tree that leads to that outcome has a logical progression where you subjugate the “barbarian” nations to the north that historically did threaten Thrace, and if they had gone down that route it would have made sense for them to have kept pushing north. There’s a good amount of variety here and the objectives make sense, both from a historical and a gameplay point of view. The objectives range from conquering specific territories to improving life in your kingdom to building up a lot of wealth. ![]() The mission trees do of course work like those of other nations, and are basically a series of objectives which, when you’ve accomplished them, give you some kind of bonus. Egypt, Thrace, Macedon, the Seleukid(/Seleucid) Empire and the Antigonid Kingdom all got brand new mission trees befitting such important powers. The main selling point of this DLC is the new quests and events for several nations. This review is not really about that update, but the DLC itself.īetter act fast, soon only the heirs to the heirs remain New Quests for Old Nations Launching alongside Heirs of Alexander is also the Marius Update, which is pretty much an overhaul of the game. ![]() ![]() ![]() Heirs of Alexander is not an exception, it adds new mission trees and new events to the successor kingdoms, and also Great wonders, which anyone who can afford them can build. Their Content Packs or immersion packs (names can vary from game to game) are small DLCs that mostly gives a specific region a bit more flavour, and they also tend to have one or two minor things that are relevant for those not playing in that region. Alexander conquered a vast amount of territory during his short reign, from Egypt and Anatolia through present day Iran and up to the borders of India, and upon his death the land that he conquered split into several smaller nations, all vying for power.įor those who have followed Paradox releases for a while the format of this DLC should seem familiar. That quote is supposedly by Alexander the Great, though there’s no actually evidence of him ever saying that, but since when has lack of evidence ever stopped someone from attributing a quote to someone? In either case, this DLC is not about Alexander the Great, but the successor kingdoms he left behind. ![]()

On the surface, Career of Evil is a traditional whodunit, with three chief suspects, all of them highly credible. Rowling proves she can write excellent adult novels So, when a dowdy middle-aged woman wanders into the office asking for help in finding her husband more than a week after he disappeared, Strike jumps at the chance even though he can see no prospect of getting paid for the work: it’s a relief simply to be working for someone with seemingly pure motives. Strike and his eager young assistant, Robin Ellacott, are mired in the rush of routine investigative business-mostly, tracking unfaithful husbands and cheating wives-that followed their headline-grabbing success in solving the murder of a supermodel. The police and most of her family insist she committed suicide, but her brother, John Bristow, believes otherwise and hires a down-and-out private detective with a colorful past and the unlikely name of Cormoran Strike. Oster's paper connected the dots of previous research since Dove's discovery and gave the subject renewed relevance for modern scientific questions about sound and its impact on impairments. Gerald Osterĭove made the discovery of binaural beats, but it wasn't until 1973 that biophysicist Doctor Gerald Oster brought it to mainstream attention in his paper, ‘Auditory Beats in the Brain' published in Scientific American. The two forks vibrated at slightly different frequencies, producing different sounds in each ear.ĭove documented that the subject perceived the combination of the two frequencies as a slow beat, which is now known as the binaural beats phenomenon. He then placed another tuning fork on the other side of the room connected to the other ear. He had his subject stand in a room and placed a tuning fork on one side connected to a tube leading to the subject's ear. The discovery of how binaural beats work was made in 1839 by Heinrich Wilhelm Dove, a Prussian physicist and meteorologist.ĭove was an enthusiastic experimenter and his experiments paved the way for exploration in brainwave entrainment.Īt the time, headphones were not available, so Dove conducted an experiment to make his discovery. The Discovery of Binaural Beats Heinrich Willhelm Dove In much the same way, binaural beats provide numerous benefits, including deeper meditation, stress relief, reduced anxiety, improved focus, better sleep, and more. Tibetan monks, Native American shamans, Hindu healers, and master yogis, for example, have utilized repetitive drumming and chanting to induce specific states of being for meditation, transcendence of consciousness, and healing. Indeed, repetitive beat formats have played a crucial role in the well-being and prosperity of nearly every ancient culture. This research supports the theories that suggest that the use of the drum by indigenous cultures in ritual and ceremony has specific neurophysiological effects and the ability to elicit temporary changes in brain wave activity, and thereby facilitates imagery and possible entry into an ASC (altered state of consciousness) ( 2). The pattern of the drumbeat as it relates to beats per second can be correlated with resulting temporary changes in brain wave frequency (cycles per second) and/or subjective experience, provided the drumming pattern is sustained for at least 13 – 15 minutes. ![]() This consistent rhythm induced a trance-like state in the tribe, as the brain followed along with the 4.5 beats-per-second brainwave frequency, which corresponds to a low Theta brainwave state, as you'll learn about later. Interestingly, scientist Melinda Maxfield, PhD, conducted research on the drumbeats used in ancient cultural rituals and found that they generally had a steady beat of 4.5 beats per second. But what they did know was that sound had powerful healing properties. Of course, in times past, societies didn't refer to music therapy, binaural beats, or brainwave entrainment of any kind. For example, the Chinese character for medicine includes the character for music ( 1).

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Property Litigation Association have created a mediation service to help neighbours resolve disputes over their property boundaries without resorting to court action. There are other organisations that can help you before things get to that stage. In a lot of cases though, the deeds make no mention. Sometimes deeds lodged with us when we first register the property may have information about it, in which case it may be mentioned in the register. People often think they are responsible for the left (or right) hand boundary wherever they live, but there isn’t any legal basis for this. A deed plan may refer to measurements but these have to be interpreted, as the land may not be level and you don’t know where they were measured from or how. If you want to check if we have any boundary information, you can get a copy of the title register, title plan, and any ‘filed’ deeds we have for your own property and your neighbour's property. We can’t tell you which boundary feature you are responsible for either, though some registers may refer to this. For instance, it may not show small juts in the boundary or bay windows. The information is based on large-scale Ordnance Survey mapping and is generalised to some degree. I always start by explaining that we can’t tell you exactly where your legal boundary is, as our title plans show general boundaries. In my experience, the boundary can often become the weapon of choice when neighbours have fallen out over something such as noise, pets, parties, or BBQs when the washing is out. A boundary feature can be a fence, wall, hedge, ditch, piece of wire, or sometimes even just the edge of a driveway. They can be the cause of heated debate and trigger arguments between neighbours, sometimes over just a few inches of ground. I often get asked questions about boundaries and they tend to be some of the hardest to answer. Are you a member of the public?
